Getting Started

Here are some specific exercises to get you started writing a web page.  Your site trainers will help you understand one of the html editors.  Once you know what the buttons and toolbars do, start the assignments here.

Practice # 1

Create a folder to hold all of your web page items.  Name this folder TEST.  You need to save all of the html and graphic files you create  for this page inside this folder.  This will make all of the links you make "relative" so your page will work correctly no matter where you open it.  It will also make it easier to transfer the page to your school server or to the RINet server later for public sharing if you want to do that later.  (The resource links will have the full set of guidelines for posting a page on a server.)

Practice # 2

Practice # 3

Surf the web for a little while and scan web pages for  graphics you like.  When you find an interesting image, place your mouse cursor on top of it, click with the RIGHT mouse button.  A dialog box will come up with several options.  Click on SAVE IMAGE AS.  Switch to the Test folder you made and click on save.  Collect 2 or 3 graphics this way.  (Remember to observe copyright restrictions on graphics!)
