The Babe and I
by
David Adler
Grades 3-4

The Babe and I takes place in Bronx, New York in 1932. It is about a boy who thinks his dad has a job. In Bronx, New York many people are poor. One day he was playing ball with his friend Jacob and then Jacob says "Hey, I'm Babe Ruth," but he was no Babe Ruth Then Jacob had to go to his job so his friend followed him. On the way the boy bought two apples, one for his friend and one for himself out of his birthday money and then he turned a corner  and he saw his dad selling apples. His dad really didn't have a job. Then they came to a train station. They sold newspapers which said "Babe Ruth sits with fans. Read all about  it! "   Then Babe Ruth
bought a paper with a five dollar bill and then the boy and Jacob went to a baseball game. I think this was a good book. Maybe if you read it you will agree too.

The Babe and I is a good book about a boy who sells papers during the Depression to raise money for his family. While doing this, he meets some interesting characters. I recommend it!

I think this book spilled out alot of feelings and emotions and was very open. This book is about a
boy who thought his family was lucky because his dad still had a job at an office even though many people did not work. One day, however, the boy found out that his dad was actually selling apples for 5 cents each day. When he found out, the boy broke out in tears and cried for a long time.

I think the book's boring in some parts because, there were some parts where he was just telling about
the Babe sitting watching up in the stands. But I would still recommend this book because it was ok , and
it shared alot of deep feelings about the boy.

The Babe and I is a sad but warm story about a boy, a friend, and Babe Ruth.    The boy's dad pretends to have a job in the Great Depression, but the boy finds out he sells apples on the corner.   Soon
the boy and his friend sell papers.  But one customer stands out.  This customer is Babe Ruth.
I like this story because it deals with baseball and American history.

The book The Babe and I by David Adler  is about a boy and his father.  The boy's father says he has a job.  But later in the book the boy finds out that his father is only an apple seller.  One day on the
boy's birthday he hoped to get a bike, but he only got a dime.  He was not surprised because most people in the Bronx, New York in 1932 were poor.  The boy tries to help his father by selling newspapers near
Yankee Stadium.  Babe Ruth was on the 1932 Yankee baseball team.  That year they were the best team in baseball.  The boy sells Babe Ruth a newspaper and gets to see him play.  We enjoyed this book.  It was interesting and we could not stop reading.    If you read this book, we hope you enjoy it too.

This story is about one of the greatest baseball players of all time.  His  name is Babe Ruth.  In this story the main character's father tells his family that he has a real job,  but the boy finds out  that he
really only sells apples.  So the boy tries to help out by selling newspapers which only makes his father very mad at first.  One day a person who looks very familiar buys a paper from the boy .   He gives
him five dollars and tells him to keep the change.   As the man walks away, the kid realizes it is Babe Ruth.  He uses the money to buy tickets to a baseball game at Yankee Stadium for himself and a friend,
and they see the Babe hit his 26th home run.  You should read this book if you like baseball history.  It's awesome, Dude!
