Coolies

Grades 4-6

Coolies is about two boys that traveled to America to work with hundreds of other chinese workers. They are going to make a great railroad across the West  and they promise to stay with each other forever. I learned an important lesson that you should respect your ancestors because they got you to where you are today. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Coolies is about a boy named Shek and his little brother Wong.  They have to go to America to work to make money because they are poor and they cant afford any food.  Every week Shek sends all his money that he makes back to China.    I recommend this book because Mr. Yin used great describing words and exciting language.  He sends a message that caring for your family is greater than anything else.

I think Coolies is a good book. It is a little sad and a little strange. The book is sad because the brothers were not always treated nicely.
