Grades 4-6
Fame and Glory in Freedom, Georgia is a great book!!!  I like it because it is about a girl with a lot of kindness and a lot of inner strength. Her name is Burdet; her friends call her Birdi.  I enjoyed this book and I think you will too!!

Fame and Glory in Freedom Georgia is by Barbara O'Connor.  This is a really good story because it tells about friendship and if you learn how to do something and you try and try again, you will succeed. The characters are Bird, Harlem, O'Connor mom, Bird's next door neighbor, and Harlem's step dad. Bird's real name is not Bird. It is Burdette.  But, she does not like to be called Burdette so her family and friends call her Bird for short.  The setting of the story is in a lot of places like Bird's house, her school, Harlem's house, the tattoo parlor, and the neighbor's house. There is a spelling bee and Bird wants to win. Bird and Harlem practice a lot so they can win it. Bird makes a lot of new friends. I like this book because it tells about friendship. I recommend this book for grades 4-6 and for ages 8-13.

Fame and Glory in Freedom Georgia is by Barbara O'Connor. This is a very good story about a girl named Bird and a tall greasy boy named Harlem. Bird is trying to get a little fame and glory while Harlem is trying to get some friends and fit in. Bird also wants to win a spelling bee so she can go to Disney. But, she needs a partner so she gets Harlem.  At first, he doesn't want to, but he wants friends so he agrees and they enter. I think this is a very good book. I recommend this book to grades 4-6.
