Pictures of Hollis Woods
by
Patricia Reilly Giff
Grades 4-6

Pictures of Hollis Woods is by Patricia Reilly Giff. The genre of this story is realistic fiction. This book is about Hollis, a 12 year old girl who thought she had a perfect life, until she got sent to another foster home for the second time in a row. The conflict in the story is that Hollis wants to find a family, and not be taken away again to go to another foster home. I think this book is great for kids ages 11-13 years old. I didn't really like this book because it's confusing. It's Confusing because it went from one memory to the next and when she was living with one family to another. There are no illustrations in this book. The theme of the story is home is where the heart is. The mood is gloomy and sad, until Hollis finds a home with Jose Cahill. She is a woman who's sweet hearted and has no kids. Hollis enjoys the time with her. Patricia Reilly Giff is a great writer and tells a great story about a girl who had a home but kept running away. Can she find a home and a family that will keep her?
