Yankee Girl
by
Mary Ann Rodman
Grade 4-6
In 1964, Alice
moves to Mississippi from Chicago. Some of the children call her “ Yankee Girl” because she comes from the North.
Then, a girl named Valerie
moves to the school, and doesn’t have any friends.
Read this book, and you can find out what happens to Alice and Valerie. I think
this was a great book.

Yankee Girl is a great book about a girl named Alice living in 1964. Her family is moving to
Mississippi from Chicago. Alice’s dad was an FBI agent helping
black people vote. When Alice
moves she meets a boy named Jeb. Also she learns that Rev. Taylor’s daughter Valerie will be in
her class. The popular girls plan to make Valerie’s life miserable. This
is a great book!
