Mrs. Helen Johnson and Mrs. Pam Ellis (Quidnessett Elementary, North Kingstown, Rhode Island) participated in an Earthwatch Global Classroom project, January 13 - 26, 2002.  Mrs. Johnson worked at Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota, Florida joining a team of scientists as they collected data on the resident bottlenose dolphin population in Sarasota Bay.  She emailed daily journal accounts and photos and answered student questions.  A video conference was held on January 24 between scientists at Mote and the students.  The topic was echolocation.
The teachers and program in Rhode Island are funded by Earthwatch Institute with a grant from The Rhode Island Foundation.
