Internet Access
E-Mail and Dial Up
Overview
RINET will issue a dial-up account for Internet and e-mail access to any Rhode Island teacher, school administrator, other school personnel and assistants, or librarian in a public library at no charge.
The RINET staff processes requests for these no-charge, individual dial-up accounts through a school, district, or library account manager. Individuals desiring a new account should make a request through the local account manager/technology support staff. View local Account Manager contact information.
The single, statewide toll-free dial-up
access number for all RINET users in all areas of Rhode Island is
455-0268
Account Management Policies and Procedures
Accounts are permanently assigned to the district, school, or library. When an account is assigned to an individual, that person retains use of that account (including intrastate movement) until they either leave active duty, leave the state, or have the account terminated for an infraction of either RINET's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) or the district's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). In any of these cases, the account reverts back to the district, school, or library as "owner" for re-passwording and redistribution.
Block of accounts requests must be made only through an account manager. Managers making a request may do so by e-mail to RINET's Account Manager, Melanie Turcotte, melaniet@ride.ri.net , indicating how many accounts, in multiples of 5, are desired.
It will be the receiving account manager's responsibility to keep detailed records of all assignments and send a copy of the records to RINET periodically. The records should include the account holder's name, school, and home phone number (even if unpublished). RINET staff members may contact a manager for information regarding a particular account. When an account holder transfers to another school or library within Rhode Island, it is her/his responsibility to inform the Account Managers of both schools who will in turn contact RINET's Account Manager to request an account transfer.
