Email Configuration
To configure an e-mail client (for example, Eudora, Netscape, MS Outlook) to read RIDE/RINET e-mail, please enter any or all of the following information when prompted by the e-mail client software:
E-mail address = your_account_name@ride.ri.net (for example,ride1234@ride.ri.net)
Username or Account name = your RIDE account name (for example, ride1234)
SMTP server = ride.ri.net
Outgoing mail server = ride.ri.net
Incoming mail server = ride.ri.net
Server Type = either IMAP or POP3
Note: If you choose to leave the messages on the server, they remain there until deleted. This method is suggested if you read mail from more than one computer. If you choose to download the messages, they are downloaded to the PC or Macintosh and are deleted from the server. This method is suggested if you normally read mail from one computer (i.e., your home computer).
Important change for Cox Users Only:
Cox Home Internet Service no longer allows mail to be "relayed". This means that when you connect over your Cox connection, you can receive but not send RINET e-mail (or any other non-Cox e-mail). The remedy to this situation is to make a small change in your e-mail client to accomodate the Cox change in policy.
To fix the problem, go into your mail client (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Netscape Mail, etc.) and change the configuration for "Outgoing or SMTP Mail Server" to "smtp.east.cox.net" (it will now say "ride.ri.net").
