using words or phrases that help the reader to understand the unknown word.
REMINDER First Communion: Saturday May 1st at 11:00AM Gym is on Thursday. ***Party invitations should not be sent
through school. I will be glad to provide a class list of names and
addresses upon request.
GRADING - Your child's work will be graded with a rubric using the numbers 1-5. Occasionally you will see some letters on your child's paper. The following list should help you understand them. If you have any questions please let me know. I- Work was done independently and is usually graded 1-5. DT-Work was done together lead by the teacher so if your child was following the lesson the answers should be correct. This is a good indicator as to whether your child is paying attention and staying on task. CT- This notation means that the work was corrected together by your
child in class. If incorrect answers were not marked wrong
X- A big X drawn through a workbook page means that this page was not assigned and your child was only responsible for the other side of the paper. * A red asterisk
is used to draw your child's attention to directions or indicates that
I have discussed the work with your child.
. THANKS!!!
We are currently in need of
kleenex and paper towels.
Thanks for all of the supplies
that you have sent in.

What's happening in Grade
2?
Reading- We are working in the 2.2 Book Delights. We will be starting the story The Great Ball Game this week. Math- The children need lots of practice with
Math Facts. Please drill them for a few minutes each night .
I will be sending home suggestions for different ways to do this. We have
been learning how to add and subtract with and without regrouping.
In our new unit the children will be learning more about geometrical shapes.
Handwriting - We have begun learning how to write in cursive. It is a slow process. Each letter will be introduced individually. Then we will practice words and making different kinds of connections. The children are to do all of their work in manuscript until instructed to use cursive. Religion - We are preparing for the sacrament of Eucharist
(First Communion). The children will be learning the parts of the Mass
and the responses that we say. More information will be coming.
Language - We are reviewing sentences and writing short
stories with a good beginning, middle and ending. The children have started
work on their animal reports. All of this work will be done in class.
