                TOTEM POLES
This month we are going to be focusing on people in our lives that we are thankful for.  One of my favorite activities I do during the year is making family totem poles.  In order to do this, I need your help!  I need each student to bring in 3 empty coffee cans that are all the same size.  Also, the children will need many pictures of their family and loved ones.  These pictures will be cut up!  The more pictures you can spare the better.  Please have the pictures in school no later than Monday, November 16th.  I will need your cans no later than Monday, November 23rd.  Thank you so much for your cooperation!  If there are any questions or concerns please feel free to send in a note or email me.  Heyjude776@yahoo.com

    SCIENCE
I teach both second grades science.  Both classes will have science three times a week.  Each Monday a Bonus Question will be given.  The students have until Friday morning to hand in an answer.  The answer MUST be received before class that morning in order for it to count.  Answers can be found in encyclopedias, the internet, or in the news.  This is NOT mandatory.  Children who do not participate are not penalized.  Those who hand in correct answers will receive a prize.  Good luck!
The next mini unit we will learn about is NUTRITION The students will be learning about the different food groups, healthy eating, and how these foods affect their bodies.

Stay tuned for a new Bonus Question each week!

BONUS QUESTION!  11-16-09   Good luck!  Answers must be written out by the students.  I will not accept printed out pages from the internet as an answer.  Due Friday!

~  Due to a backup of bonus questions that need to be answered, I'm taking the week off!  Thank you for your understanding.  :)  Check back next week!

Answer to last week's question: We sneeze whenever there is something "foreign" in our nose.  When our nose hairs get tickled, our brain sends a message to our lungs to give a burst of air to clear it out.  Bless you!

The Book Challenge has begun!  Sheets are available for the students to bring home.  Once they have finished a book they may fill out a form and return it for a sticker on the chart.  Our goal is to read 25 books this year!  There are incentives along the way.
  5 Books:  Bookmark
10 Books:  Pencil
15 Books:  No Homework Pass
20 Books:  5 Angel awards
25 Books:  No Uniform Day!

Good Luck!!!

Right now we are reading we are reading George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl.

I encourage everyone to read as much as possible.  Even reading a short story before bedtime can be a wonderful activity for siblings or parents.

I am always extremely grateful for donations of Kleenex, paper towels, cleaning products, straws, etc.  Thank you in advance!  :)
