As you know, the Father John V.
Doyle mission is “to extend the love of Christ and the power of knowledge
in the hearts and minds of our students.
This mission is based on our strong Roman Catholic tradition to live the
Word of God and on our commitment to provide a solid, well-rounded,
academic program, in a caring, nurturing environment." It is
important to keep a connection with this mission and our daily classroom
life.
In our homeroom, I expect and teach respect
for oneself and others, self-control, and patience in addition to our academic
studies. Expectations of students include keeping voices to an “inside
level” (including while walking in front of the office or in the lower
grade wing), demonstrating self-control in physical situations, and keeping
the classroom in order by throwing away trash, cleaning up spills, and
returning desks/chairs to the classroom arrangement. Each student
has the responsibility to make good choices in working toward our goals.
Students are expected to follow the school
& classroom rules.
I expect students in my homeroom to be good
role models for the younger grades!
Students must have a book for leisure reading
and agenda with them at all times.
I expect students to participate in prayer
services & masses!
I can be available to meet with students
either before or after school. Students should set up a meeting time
at least one day in advance.
Donations of TISSUES, PLASTIC UTENSILS, &
PAPER TOWELS for our classroom are greatly appreciated throughout the year!

Grade 6 > God Calls a People focus
on the Old Testament
Grade 7 > Jesus the Way, the Truth, and
the Life focus on the New Testament
Grade 8 > The Church Then and Now focus
on the history of the Church
Students are expected to come to class prepared
with a Bible, pen, highlighter, textbook, independent reading book, and
agenda. A composition notebook is also required for every Friday
class. Students should have a purple 2-pocket folder to store their
work.
Students are expected to show respect to
their classmates and others in the room. Insults, offensive language,
or put-downs will not be tolerated.
Grades will be based on the following:
Classwork (35%) allows students to demonstrate
their understanding of the material in creative and meaningful ways.
Classwork consists of worksheets, group projects, class participation,
and other classroom activities. Classwork also includes Daily Prayer
which begins each class period. Daily Prayer may consist of personal
prayer, Bible readings, guided prayer, and/or a short writing assignment.
Students must have a composition notebook (NO spirals or binders) with
them for every Friday class period.
The Independent Project (15%) continues throughout
the three year program. Christian Service is an important part of the curriculum.
Students are expected to perform a minimum of ten hours of Christian Service
for the school year. They will complete a variety of performance
reflections each trimester to enhance their learning experience.
Verification of hours should be submitted immediately to ensure credit.
Grade 6 and new students… more information to follow.
Homework assignments (10%) will give students
the chance to review the knowledge they have gained as well as offer the
opportunity to demonstrate responsibility.
Assessments (40%) are given at the end of
each chapter and each unit. At the end of each chapter, there will
be a chapter quiz on the material learned from that chapter only.
Your “highlights” are your best study guide for chapter quizzes.
Unit Tests are given after each unit is completed and will cover information
from a set of chapters. Chapter quizzes are your best study guide
for Unit Tests.
Absent Students must retrieve missed
work from the “Missed Work Folder” on the first day they return to school.
This includes missed classes within a school day, such as a doctor or dentist
appointment.
