The UCAP school library media center (SLMC)
mission is to ensure that students and staff are effective
users of ideas and information by

Information Power mission of the school library media
program as stated in Information Power Building Partnerships
for Learning published by the American Library Association
(ALA).

Provide leadership, instruction, and
consulting assistance in the use and integration of
instructional and information technology.

Provide and maintain a quality
collection of professional development materials.

Promote collaborative teaching and
learning experiences that encourage critical thinking
and selective use of information.

Provide a stimulating learning
environment that encourages individual and group use of
the media center.

Encourage creation of knowledge
through effective use of information, concepts, and
ideas.

Facilitate the development and
implementation of a research process throughout the
school.

Develop an appreciation for
diversity in all forms by providing a wide spectrum of
resources and learning activities.

Provide quality resources to promote
literacy and to support teaching and learning.

Promote an appreciation of
literature and stimulate an appreciation of reading.

The UCAP SLMC student skills and
objectives are in accordance with the Rhode Island

per year at grade level.

comprehensive information is the basis for intelligent

contents, search engines, and topical sentences in
