All students who attend UCAP have
repeated at least one grade prior to enrolling at UCAP.
In addition, most students have
experienced multiple characteristics associated with being
at serious risk of dropping out of school, such as
absenteeism, suspension, or family problems.

Beyond School Activities
-
We offered 25 different
recreational, academic, and /or enrichment activities.
-
Every one of the 141 students
participated in at least one activity.
-
On average, each student spent over
37 hours involved in out-of-school-time programs; this
was an increase of 10 hours per student over last year.

Academic and enrichment activities
included choir, algebra course, biology course, college
visits, English course, expressions club, homework club,
brainy games, museum trips, Saturday school, summer
enrichment programs, travel to Block Island and New York
City, and zoo visits.

Recreational activities included
basketball, beach-combing, bowling, dancing, hiking, ice
skating, skiing, softball, walking, weight training.

We offered numerous new programs
this year, including hip-hop dance and beach-combing.

We expanded our outreach to engage
parents in Beyond School programs with a family trip to
New York City and a very well attended International
Night potluck dinner and showcase of student work.

All programs offered positive adult
role modeling of appropriate problem solving and
conflict resolution skills, as well as academic or
recreational aspects.
During the 2007-2008 school year, we
plan to focus on the following initiatives:

Expand the diversity and number of
programs and increase student participation.

Improve our ability to engage
parents in meaningful ways and increase parent
participation.

Track the effect of our Beyond
School programs on students using our data collection
and reporting system.
