District Strategic Plan 2004-2007

VISION:         The Middletown Public Schools will create a learning community that will enable all students to achieve high standards necessary for life in the 21st century.

MISSION:     In partnership with students, parents, and community, the mission of the Middletown Public Schools is to provide a comprehensive, safe, educational environment that is learner-centered, enabling all students to succeed in the global economy of the 21st century.

 

GOAL 1 (Student Learning):  By 2007, all Middletown students will be assured of the opportunity to achieve high educational standards

Strategy 1.1 (Technology):

Provide access for all students to technology which supports improved student learning and the development of appropriate technological skills.

Strategy 1.2 (High Standards):

Establish high standards to challenge students to meet or exceed performance targets.

Strategy 1.3 (Curriculum):

Align all curricula with adopted standards.

Strategy 1.4 (Performance Assessment):

Assess students regularly according to district and state standards.

Strategy 1.5 (Exit Criteria):

All students will meet or exceed grade level benchmarks as defined by the state.

Strategy 1.6 (School to Career):

All students will acquire the necessary skills, competencies and personal qualities to succeed in the workplace.

Strategy 1.7 (School Improvement Plans):

Develop a School Improvement Plan to support student learning for each school, based on assessment results, SALT and NEASC recommendations and the state guidelines.

 

GOAL 2 (Professional Development and Evaluation):  By 2007, all staff will participate in collaboratively designed district and building level professional development and evaluation activities to support improved student learning as targeted by SALT, NEASC, district and state assessment data.

Strategy 2.1 (Professional Development):

Align professional development programs with curriculum standards, data results, and needs identified by staff.

Strategy 2.2 (Evaluation of Staff):

Evaluate all staff to facilitate professional growth and enhance job performance.

 

GOAL 3:   (Utilization of Resources):  By 2007, all Middletown schools will manage and utilize available resources to improve student achievement.

Strategy 3.1 (Time Utilization):

Utilize time in a flexible manner to support student achievement.

Strategy 3.2 (Funding and Advocacy):

Develop and implement strategies for funding educational programs.

Strategy 3.3 (Community Surveys):

Conduct and evaluate community surveys.

Strategy 3.4 (District and School Strategic Plans):

Develop and update individual school strategic plans.

 

GOAL 4:   (School Facilities and Environment): By 2007, all Middletown schools will be safe, orderly, accessible, attractive, substance abuse free, creative learning environments that promote productivity and stimulate learning.

Strategy 4.1 (Facility Needs):

Create appropriate space to meet learning needs.

Strategy 4.2 (Safe Schools):

Provide a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff and visitors.

Strategy 4.3 (Transportation):

Provide safe and orderly transportation to all eligible Middletown students.

Strategy 4.4 (Maintenance Plans):

Maintain buildings and grounds in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

 

GOAL 5:   (Parent-Family-Community Involvement): By 2007, all Middletown Schools will increase involvement by parents, families, students and community in decision-making and support for student learning.

Strategy 5.1 (Parent Involvement):

Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to involve parents.

Strategy 5.2 (Community Involvement):

Develop and implement a plan utilizing community resources, e.g., businesses, human service, and social organizations to benefit the entire school community.

Strategy 5.3(Communication):

Increase communication among schools, families, and community.
