What are the "Push Factors?"

Tanzania By : Rebecca R.

Religious Freedom:
There are many different religions in Tanzania. It’s pretty much even between the different religions like Christians, Muslims and indigenous beliefs. But since Tanzania is a republic so it is free which means they have freedom of religion. Also, the neighboring country have religion freedom too. This may help people to come to Tanzania because you can have freedom of religion.
Government Structure:
Tanzania has a Republic government which means they are a free country.  Men and women are able to vote at the age of 18. Tanzania became independent in 1961 from Great Britain and were renamed the Untied Union of Tanzania in 1964. They also have a constitution but was majorly revised in 1984. The president can only serve a 5 year term but can be elected again for another 5 years if re-elected. Tanzania has three branches of government like the US;  Judicial branch, Legislative branch, and the Executive Branch. Since there is freedom it may want to bring more people in.
Economic Status:
In Tanzania, the per capita is about $1,300 in US dollars. But what is not good is that the import has a larger number than the export so they are sending out more than they are getting. So by spending more money on other things and not getting things may cause famine and may cause the people to leave the country.

Human Rights Violations:
Many things are happening in Tanzania. One thing is the violence against the women refugees. There are domestic and sexual violence against the women in refugee camps. The women were seeking help and protection but instead, they ended up trying to escape the abuse in the camps in Tanzania. By these things happening, people would want to leave Tanzania because of the abuse to women.

Country Overview:

In Tanzania, the main language that is spoken is Kiswahili or Swahili. There are other languages.  spoken there too like Arabic and English. Tanzania is located in Eastern Africa along the Indian Ocean and between Mozambique and Kenya. In the mainland of Tanzania, 30% are Christian, 35% Muslim, indigenous beliefs are about 35% and Zanzibar, more than 99% are Muslim. Tanzania was under British rule until the early 1960 when the gained independence.

Education:
The country of Tanzania has a literacy rate of 69.4%. This is a low literacy rate which means that the people in Tanzania don’t have a very good education. This means the doctors there won’t be able to help people that are sick. Also, this isn’t good for the health care system so there is a chance that more people will die. So if there is not a good literacy rate, then the health care is good either. For example, the Tanzanians have a low life expectancy rate at about 52.01 years. That’s not very good and that mean  more people are dyeing more quickly than in other countries but the surrounding countries also have a low life expectancy rate. Lastly, their education expenditures is only 2.2 % so only 2.2% out of a 100% is going to the schools education. So this would cause people to be pushed out because of how low their Education expenditures are.

Resolution:

Tanzania would be more of a push country because of its bad life expectancy and low literacy rate. But the neighboring countries wouldn’t be much help either because in Kenya, there life expectancy is about 57.86 years and their education expenditures is 6.9% which is a lot better than 2.2% but is still pretty low. Zambia is 2% education expenditures and people only live till about 52.72 years. So the countries around Tanzania wouldn’t be much help with the problems there either. Obviously, Tanzania is a push country that would want people to leave not help other countries in need because they too need help with there country. So if Tanzania would be able to get help from countries like the US to improve the education and get more money then they could get back on their feet to make Tanzania a place well visiting.
