A Message from Superintendent Kraeger & School Committee Chair CrowleyOver the next few months we will be developing a master plan for our public schools that will become the blueprint for change for Middletown’s Educational Future. This is an exciting challenge – one that will require the talents and input from many community members. We invite you to help us determine what type of learning community will best suit the future educational needs of Middletown by joining the Core Committee.
As a member of the Core Committee you will be working with a consultant team led by Prakesh Nair, of Fielding/Nair International, a company that specializes in developing innovative learning communities around the world. The Core Committee will represent a wide cross-section of the Middletown community including parents, students, teachers, school administrators, and other community stakeholders.
This project is funded through the support of the Town Council. It is also a result of the hard work of the Facilities Advisory Committee. We are taking their findings to the next level by engaging a professional group that will guide us in determining what is required to support our educational needs of our community. The charge of the Core Committee will be to assist in the development of a comprehensive master plan for the future of the schools.
The Core Committee will hold a minimum of ten (10) meetings from November through May to complete the task. Our kick-off meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 27 at the Middletown Public Schools Oliphant Administration Office at 26 Oliphant Lane. Prakash Nair will conduct the first visioning session and facilitate a discussion about the desired future of our schools. Attached is a schedule of the anticipated Core Committee and community meetings.
For more information on the type of learning community we’re hoping to create in Middletown, please look at the Fielding/Nair website http://designshare.com. You can also review a PowerPoint slide show on the Middletown Public Schools website that gives an overview of this planning process www.ri.net/middletown/mef/linksresources.
We hope you will be able to join the Core Committee and take part in helping to shape Middletown’s Educational Future: A Strategy for Change. We’d be happy to answer any of your questions or discuss this process with you in further detail. Please let us know your decision to join this group by calling Mary at 849-2122 or emailing at mdyl@mpsri.net.
