BUILDING A LEARNING COMMUNITY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Colleagues & Parents:
There is a growing commitment to professional development throughout the district. This is evidenced in the number of teachers and administrators participating in workshops and activities, which enhance individual skills and move the standards agenda to a new level.
In addition to the numerous workshops held throughout the Summer, this Fall, our staff has been busy. School Improvement Team members are involved in three to four hours of intense training sessions, honing their skills in facilitation and setting parameters for their work around student achievement. Teachers in grades 1-4 are finalizing a new reporting system based on standards. Learning Walks occur weekly in our schools with many teachers joining the walks that focus on clear expectations and accountability talk. Literacy Support teachers are participating in literacy coach training, designed to improve reading, writing and language instruction in our classrooms, ensuring that our students become independent, strategic readers, writers and spellers. Central Office Administration, Principals, Assistant Principals, Department Heads and Grade Leaders continue their study through the University of Pittsburgh in “Principles of Learning”.
I am encouraged to see more than half of our district’s staff taking part in so many activities. It is something in which our citizens should be proud.
The Middletown School System is truly becoming a “Learning Community”, fulfilling our vision. I want to thank you publicly.
Sincerely,
Rosemarie K. Kraeger
Superintendent
