New Report Cards for
Grades 1-4
Beginning this December, Grades 1-4 will be using new report cards that teachers have been involved in designing for the past two years. The new reporting design more clearly reflects the English Language Arts and mathematics standards that teachers have been using for instruction.
Parents were invited to attend informational sessions on the report cards for grades 1 to 3 in November. At the sessions, information booklets describing the English Language Arts standards were distributed to each family and teachers showed examples of work that they will be using to determine how well students are progressing toward the standards. The grade 4 parent session is scheduled for 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 4th at Oliphant School.
The new report cards indicate whether a student “meets expected performance” at the time of the report or is “working toward the expected performance.” If a student is working toward the expected performance, a checklist of skills provides additional information for parents about areas of concern. At the end of the year, the report indicates if a student has met the grade level standard.
For the first trimester, the new report cards will be distributed December 11th. Sample report cards can be found on the Middletown Public Schools website: http://www.middletownri.com/reportcards1-4/.
