MPS Implementation Timeline

As a school district that has embraced standards-driven education, Middletown has recognized that our existing student information system, in its current fashion, does not meet our needs. The introduction of, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements have gave us the opportunity to collaborate in the selection process and implementation of a statewide student information system. The benefits of this collaboration and support system were clear during the rigorous but fruitful selection of Maximus, Inc. product, SchoolMAX.

The Maximus SchoolMAX Student Information System provides end users with an extensive array of information to allow the better management of districts, schools and students. The implementation of this product will allow us to meet the NCLB requirements for data collection standards. It will also support a district-wide solution that provides a standards-based report card, flexible scheduling, supports individualized education plan (IEP) writing, school health data management, while providing data to administration, teachers and parents on a regular basis. Statewide reporting, Medicaid tracking/reimbursement and a web-based environment are additional benefits to this product. In addition, this can all be done through a web browser without upgrading existing workstations.

On Friday, June 6,2003, the Rhode Island Network for Educational Technology (RINET) Board of Directors approved the selection of School Max. While RINET and RIDE continue to research the seed monies and the foundation for a statewide initiative, Middletown, Barrington and Westerly have begun implementation of the system as the pilot districts. In this collaborative model, each district will purchase licensing and will combine efforts for project management, trainings, conversion and code table planning and user group support, to name a few. During this stage of the pilot, SchoolMAX will provide a hosted model that will have a go-live date of December 1st. (Centralized electronic enrollment will begin November 12th.) The focus from now until then will be data conversion, setting code tables, setting security tables, establishment of policies and procedures, and training sessions.
