Phenh until the age of five.  She loved the city of Phnom Phenh,
all the city markets, all the different foods, and her loving parents. Her
mother always thought there was a troublemaker in her, but her dad knew she
was a smart and very clever girl.

took over. Loung and her family left the area and fled to many different
areas and tried to hide their identity. Her father and mother were against
the Khmer Rouge and that's why they had to hide their identity because the
Khmer Rouge was killing anyone against them.
Loung was trained as a child soldier while some of her siblings were
sent to labor camps. One night, soldiers  knocked on their door. They asked for her father and said
they needed him to come with them. They said he would return the next
morning, but he never did.
Finally  the Khmer Rouge was defeated and  when the surviving siblings are reunited,
they go on a mission to find the rest of their family.
