Clubs and Activities Offered at EGHS
  • Academic Decathlon

  • The Academic Decathlon team meets weekly from September through March for the state competition at CCRI, Warwick. Students compete in 10 academic topics: Math, Science, Social Science, Economics, Art/Music, Speech, Interview, Essay, and the Superquiz. See Mr. Lenox for more details.
  • British Exchange

  • Since 1983, EGHS has participated in an exchange program with Bishop Heber High in Malapas, Chesire, England. EGHS students spend 4 weeks in England during August and September. Three days are spent in London, one in Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as other exciting places. See Mr. Alfano for further information.
  • Cheerleaders (Football, Hockey, Varsity and JV Basketball)

  • EGHS has cheerleading squads for hockey, football, and basketball. Tryouts are held before each sports season begins.
  • Class Council

  • Each grade elects a class council and officers who plan activities for each grade.
  • DECA

  • The Distributive Education Club of America is a club that concentrates on developing entrepreneurship, retail, and marketing skills, with Mr. DePastina as the club's advisor.
  • Drama Club

  • The Drama Club is one of the largest active groups in the school The members produce a full-scale musical in the spring and helps build confidence and self esteem.
  • Environmental Club

  • The Environmental Club helps to improve the environment of both the school and the community. The club recycles papers, and participates in the annual "Trash Bash". See Mr. Rath for more information.
  • French/Swiss Exchange

  • Over three weeks in April students visit different places in France. The 97-98 exchange will be with Nyon. See Mr. Gravelin for more details.
  • Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation

  • A single sophmore is selected each year to go to this four day event which promotes leadership skills.
  • Interact (sponsored by Rotary)

  • Interact is a service club for high school students. Students will travel to different schools and give assistance to civic groups.
  • International Club

  • The International Club is open to all EGHS students and activities include field trips to Boston and New York, and dinners at international restaurants in the local area. A fundraiser and a dance is also held. See Mr. Gravelin or Mrs. Varone.
  • Ivy Day

  • Ivy Day is a traditional ceremony for seniors a week before graduation. Classes are dismissed at 1:00 PM. Parent volunteers assist in serving refreshments. Contact the schooll for more info.
  • Jazz Band

  • Jazz Band meets every morning at 6:45 and students study a variety of styles. Jazz Band performs at school and community events.
  • Math Center

  • The Math Center provides students with extra help in Math. See the scheduele for times that the Math Center is open.
  • Math Team

  • Teams of five students compete statewide for four meets. See Mrs. McNulty or Mrs. Gravelin to join. Practice os each week from September to April.
  • Model Legislature

  • The Rhode Island Model Legislature serves as an experiential program in the study of democracy. Each year high school students enact model legislation and debate. Contact Mr. Ellis for info.
  • National Honor Society

  • Membership in the National Honor Society is based on academic average, leadership, character, and service, as well as involvement in activities. Juniors and seniors are notified after the first semester if eligible. The advisors are Mrs. Bailey-Gates and Mr. Lenox.
  • Peer Education

  • The Peer Education Program has Students being role models to elementary kids. Many health issues are discussed.
  • Newspaper (Spectrum)

  • The Spectrum is the student newspaper, which is published 6 times yearly and sold for $0.25. The Spectrum works with Wilson Publishing Company and the advisors are Mr. Brocato and Mrs. Moscardi. Any interested student is invited to join.
  • Orchestra

  • Orchestra rehearses after school Mondays and Wednesdays. Students perform in concerts as well as in the Drama Club's musical production. Attendance is mandatory.
  • Student Council

  • The EGHS Student Council is a chartered student organization with a written constitution. There are seven elected officers. Membership consists of at large members and members from each homeroom. Student Council organizes and manages events and greets new students. They also put on Spirit Week and do Thanksgiving Food Baskets. See Mr. Rath to join.
  • Yearbook (Crimson)

  • The Crimson was awarded First Place All-New England for the past 21 years. meetings are held weekly. Contact Mr. Alfano.
  • Youth to Youth

  • Youth to Youth is an active leadership/substance abuse prevention club in the high school. Meetings are announced during school. See Mr. Houghtaling.
  • Technology Team

  • The Technology Team is responsible for this web page. Meetings are held every other Friday after school in the library with Mrs. McCormack. We frequently update the school's web page and make a yearly video. See Mr. Lenox for more information.
