Our School

East Greenwich High School is a comprehensive school serving students in grades 9-12. The school opened in 1942 at the site of East Greenwich Academy and moved to its present 75-acre site in 1967. To meet thee individual needs of students, courses are offered at three academic levels: accelerated (Level 1), college preparatory (Level 2), and remedial (Level 3). In addition, a full range of special education programs is available. Approximately 75 percent of the graduates go on to four-year colleges and an additional 13 percent attend two-year or technical programs.

The school offers extensive opportunities for students to participate in athletic, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. In activities, and in all types of competitions, the students involved excel, with numerous athletic championships and awards to their credit. East Greenwich High School was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an Exemplary Secondary School in the 1983-84 school recognition program. In 1995, East Greenwich High School received the Drug-Free School Recognition Program from the U.S. Department of Education.

Statement of Philosophy

East Greenwich High School is a four-year comprehensive high school whose major function is to accept students as they are and to afford them the maximum opportunity for self-growth. East greenwich High School has a commitment to provide all students with a sence of achievement as a foundation for their success. Individual differences are provided for through curriculum offerings which are appropriate to the broad range of academic abilites and interests of the students. Within these offerings teachers utilize a diversity of materials, different methods of presentation, and all available resources to serve the needs of the individual student.

The school is a forum for critical thinking and self-definition. It is the source of motivation and the necessary framework upon which students build self-confidence, make decisions relevant to their unique needs, accept responsibilities, and prepare for a democratic way of life. In this regard, the school recognizes and obligation to serve as liaison with the home and the community.

High school represents one stage in the lifelong process of education. In recognition of this concept of total education, the school is mindful of the past, operates in the present, and provides for the future of all of our students.

Directions to EGHS

From the North: Follow 95 South to exit 8, Route 2, East Greenwich. Head south on Route 2 for ~2 miles to the second traffic light, Middle Road. Turn left onto Middle Road and continue for 1 mile. Turn right onto Avenger Drive (just after the bridge) and proceed to the school. Visitor parking is located on the North side of the school. ALL VISITORS ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK IN AT THE MAIN OFFICE.

From the South: Follow Route 4 to exit 6, Route 2, East Greenwich. Head north on Route 2 for ~2 miles to the fourth traffic light, Middle Road. Turn right onto Middle Road and continue for 1 mile. Turn right onto Avenger Drive (just after the bridge) and proceed to the school. Visitor parking is located on the North side of the school. ALL VISITORS ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK IN AT THE MAIN OFFICE.
