ELDREDGE READING WEEK
APRIL 1-11, 2002

Welcome Readers
to James H. Eldredge School

"Reaching New Heights"
welcome board was designed for reading week by Lynne Thomas, Educational Assistant at
James H. Eldredge School.

The Primary goal of Reading Week is to encourage students to become Young Authors and Readers.  Our students were asked to join in the celebration of this year's theme, "2002:  Reaching New Heights."  This theme encouraged students to stretch their talents in reading and writing while exploring an author's point of view.  Students were asked to reflect on the author's intent and decide the value of the message expressed.  They had the opportunity to explore other ways a story could be written, adding their own point of view.

Thanks to Mrs. Kathy Gafen, a wide variety of guest readers was scheduled to read to our students throughout reading week.  Classrooms were treated to visits by Congressman Langevin, Senator Reed, the Cardi Brothers, Gene Valicenti, Wendy Cicchetti, Oscar Eustis, and many other individuals who gave so generously to our students.

Eldredge students were easily able to reach new heights thanks to the great celebration of Reading Week!
