Art Curriculum

The art curriculum focuses on the visual arts.  The mision of the curriculum is to provide a sequential visual arts program which includes art history, art production, art critisism and aesthetics.  Students are encourged to think originally, independently, critically and abstractly.  The art curriculum encourges a love of learning and a life long interest in art. Students receive art instruction once a week for 40 minutes.

East Greenwich Public Schools have adopted the National Standards for Arts Education which are:
    1. Understands and applies media, techniques, and processes.
    2. Uses knowledge of structures and functions.
    3. Chooses and evaluates a range of subject matter, sumbols, and ideas.
    4. Understands the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
    5. Reflects upon and assesses the characteristics and merits of their work and the work
       of  others.
    6. Makes connections between the arts and other disciplines.
