School Report Night (Thursday, October 16, 2003)
Frenchtown's School Report Night is part of the SALT cycle. School report night is a way to reach out to parents and involve them in our school improvement process. Just as the SALT process asks schools to assume responsibility for their own improvement, school report night reminds parents of their crucial role in the improvement process.
A successful school report night encourages open discussion about ways parents can become more active in improving learning. Frenchtown's School Report Night is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2003.
The SALT Visit Report (most recent visit-March, 2001)
The SALT team visited Frenchtown School in 2001. The team was comprised of teachers, parents and faculty from other Rhode Island School systems. The team followed 7 students for a full day. They observed 90 full and partial lessons totaling over 74 hours of direct classroom observation. They completed 32 interviews with teachers, staff, and administrators, they interviewed students, met with the School Improvement Team and reviewed various school policies and documents. Through this independent observation, discussion with faculty and students, and research of documents relating to Frenchtown's plans and testing results, they drew qualitative conclusions about Student Learning, Teaching, and Frenchtown School itself. You can read their report (it is quite brief) at (www.ridoe.net).. Click herethen click on "SALT visit reports" and choose Frenchtown School.

Questions asked of teachers address many different areas. One such area is attitudes toward specific educational practices,. For example, the question is asked "How much do you agree or disagree that critical thinking, small group instruction, heterogeneous grouping, or interdisciplinary practices is essential to effective education in the grade that you are teaching?"

Questions asked of teachers address many areas of subjective student assessment. One such area is a teacher rating scale of academic performance by grade level and by standards-based grades. For example, "At what grade level are the students performing in general?", "At what grade level are the students performing in reading/language arts?", "At what level are students performing in math?"

Questions asked of parents address many different areas. One such area is whether the school has made an effort to involve parents. For example, the request was made to rate the following statements, ""the school provides clear information on how report card grades are earned, the school invites me to PTG meetings, the school includes parents on school committees, the school contacts me if my child does something wrong or something well."
Other Reports provided by the RI Dept of Education (RIDOE)
Infoworks! 2003 (most recent assessment date - 2001-2002 school year)
Information Works! is the quantitative piece of the education puzzle. The Infoworks! reports are a set of report cards for individual schools, total districts and the total state of Rhode Island. The tests target specific subjects in specific grades to determine what percentage of the students is meeting, nearly meeting or exceeding the standard and conversely what percentage is below the standard or shows little evidence of achievement.. For Frenchtown, there is only one quantitative assessment. Third grade students are tested in writing. Information Works! includes 4 reports: (1) The test assessments (2) school performance and financial information (3) School Climate and other indicators, and (4) student suspension data.
They also indicate overall school performance (ie., high performing, moderately performing). There are 4 basic report cards for each school and for the school district -- (1) Assessments (academic standards test results), (2) Overall School Performance, (3) School Climate and Other Indicators, and (4) Suspension Data. These reports are very easy to use and to read. Reports are available for the past 5 years (1998-2002) for comparative purposes. Click here to review these reports
Then click on "School report cards", type in Frenchtown in school name and choose the desired report.
In$ite 2003 (most recent financial data - 2001-2002 school year)
The In$ite reports shows how school districts spend their education dollars. These reports slice the education dollars in a variety of ways. The first set of reports splits the dollars by major function -- instruction, instructional support, operations, other commitments, and leadership. The second set of reports splits the dollars by education program -- general education, special education, Chapter I, Bilingual, Vocational education, and other programs. The third set of reports splits the district's educational dollars among the three levels of schools -- elementary, middle, and high school. These reports are very easy to use and to read. All districts in the state of Rhode Island are included. Click here to review these reports
Then click on "Insite Financial Data", click on the most recent "charts and reports", click on "schools and districts", choose East Greenwich and finally choose the desired report.
