The Meadowbrook Farms Elementary School Library is a wonderful atmospherefor young boys and girls to explore the world of books and literature. There are a few rules that the children are expected to follow to retain their borrowing privileges. These rules are as follows:
  • Respect others.
  • A new book may not be checked out until the previous book has been returned.
  • Keep books clean and neat.
  • Take care of all library materials.
  • Use a library voice in the library.

Mrs. Avarista has created a fun activity that she calls "Chants" for the students of Meadowbrook Farms. Before reading the theme book of the day, Mrs. Avarista and the students chant a little poem. Here are some of the Chants the students have learned this year:
Books are Great

Books are great! Books are fun! Books let you do what you have never done! Books are cool! Books are in! Books let you go where you've never been!

Witch, Witch

Witch, Witch where do you fly?
Under the clouds and over the sky.
Witch, Witch what do you eat?
Little black apples from Hurricane Street.
Witch, Witch what do you drink?
Vinegar, blacking and good red ink.
Witch, Witch where do you sleep?
Up in the clouds where pillows are cheap. -D. Nichols

R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D

You learn to read by going to school.
Once you can read you're nobody's fool.
R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D!!
If you need to know it a book is gonna show it.
R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D!!
Give me a R! Give me an E! Give me an A! Give me a D!
What's that spell?
READ! Say it again- READ! One more time- READ!
Go to the library, take a look.
Go to the library, get a book.
R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D, R-E-A-D!!!!

Pumpkin

Once I had a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin.
Once I had a pumpkin with no face at all.
With no eyes, no nose, no mouth, no teeth.
Once I had a pumpkin with no face at all.
Then I made a Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern.
Then I made a Jack-o-lantern with a big funny face.
Big eyes, big nose, big mouth, big teeth.
Then I made a Jack-o-lantern with a big funny face.

When the Leaves

When the leaves are on the ground instead of on the trees,
I like to make a great big pile of them, way up to my knees.
I like to run and jump in them and kick them all around.
I like the prickly feel of them and the crickly, crackly sound!

With Icicles Hanging

With icicles hanging in nice little rows,
you'd best button buttons and cover your nose.
Do wear your mittens and hat, if you please,
and hurry inside if you happen to sneeze!
Achew!

Santa Claus

Santa Claus is big and FAT,
he wears black boots and a bright red hat.
His nose is red, and he
"Ho, ho, ho's from his head to his toes.

Days Before Christmas

We have been helping with the cake and licking out the pan,
And wrapping up our packages as neatly as we can.
And we have hung our stockings up, beside the open grate.
And now there's nothing more to do, except to wait!
-Margaret Chute.

Read, Read, Read a Book

Read, read, read a book, travel anywhere,
Worldwide, you decide, a book will take you there.
Read, read, read a book, beginning to the end,
What a way to spend the day, a book's a special friend!

Title Page

The author writes the book, the author writes the book,
Hi, ho, librario, the author writes the book.
The illustrator draws, the illustrator draws,
Hi, ho, librario, the illustrator draws.
The publisher puts it together, the publisher puts it together,
Hi, ho, librario, the publisher puts it together.
The copyright tells us when they made the book and then,
Hi, ho, librario, we'll sing it once again!
