Hi my name is Ariel and I am a fifth grader in Mr. Bottella`s class. The book I am reviewing is called In The Year Of The Boar And Jackie Robinson By Bette Bao Lord. It is a fiction book and has 169 pages
The characters in this story are Shirley Temple Wong who is a chinese girl with black hair and black eyes. Mr. and Mrs.Wong are nice parents.They take pride in their daughter`s future. Grandmother and Grandfather Wong are like another set of parents. They take care of her like her parents do. Shirley looks up to them.
The plot of this story is about Shirley Temple Wong's move from China to Brooklyn, New York. Shirley does not know how to speak English. lt is hard to make friends. But then she hears about baseball. All of a sudden in 1947 Jackie Robinson is the new star of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
I Liked this book because it really got me ready for my new school. I was nervous at first too!. Jackie and I both didn`t know what to do. We didn`t know anyone. She didn`t know what was going on, because she can`t speak English. That is why I liked this book. Now I know I`m not the only one who is going through this!
