Homework is assigned four nights a week, usually Monday through Thursday nights. Homework should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your child should have an Assignment Pad to record each nights homework. I sign these each night to be sure that each child has copied down all the homework correctly. If your child has missed numerous assignments then I will notify you and you will need to sign their Assignment Pad each night. All homework is to be completed fully and done neatly or it does not count.

Your child is required to read at least 25 chapter books this year in order to meet one of the reading standards. They may read these books in school and at home. In order for your child to meet this goal they must continue to read all year long. Please encourage your child to bring books home with them to read in their spare time, especially over the long vacations. The more they read the better they will get at reading fluency and comprehension, writing composition and grammar, and spelling. It really does pay off!

All 4th Graders throughout the state undergo testing in Mathematics and Language Arts, similar to the 3rd Grade writing tests that were taken last year. Please make every effort to have your child here at school on the days of the testing. This testing takes a substantial amount of time to do and it is difficult to do make-up testing because your child will ultimately miss out on what is happening in the classroom while they are taking the part of the test they have missed. The test dates are as follows:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, March 8-12 (English/L.A.)
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, March 22 - 26 (Math

A successful year for your child depends upon the success of the parent/teacher relationship. Please contact me when you feel it is necessary. We can set up a conference at a convenient time for all of us. I try to keep you informed when your child misbehaves or needs additional help in an area. I initially inform you through a note. Certain notes will need to be signed by you and returned to me the next day. This procedure lets me know that you are aware of my concerns and will work with your child to reinforce these skills at home.
