Dr. Bernard Di Lullo,
Principal
As we begin a new year, many changes have
taken place at our school. I am pleased to be working with you,
your child and our impressive faculty and staff. In mid August our
faculty was anxious to get into the school and prepare their
classrooms for your children. They worked
diligently, creating a stimulating and attractive learning
environment when others were enjoying the last few weeks of
summer. The focus of our school community is squarely on our
students’ learning. We will work as a team in providing the best
educational setting and experience for your child. This year we
will be introducing new math and science programs that promise to
be exciting experiences for your child and will prepare them for
more advanced learning in these areas. Our faculty and staff are
looking forward to helping your children grow and achieve by
having a positive school experience.
We welcome our new faculty members, Belinda
Aldrich, 4th Grade; Maureen Jervis, Elementary
Librarian; Jacqueline Kent, Elementary Art; Michelle McGillivray,
Special Education; Debra Michelli, Nurse Teacher; Mary Jane
Patton, Physical Education; Debra Turchetti-Ramm, 4th
Grade; Brian Rathier, Special Education; Tara Teolis, Special
Education, Renee Toppi, 2nd Grade and Stephen Vallante,
Elementary Music. We also welcome our new Teacher Assistants,
Daniela Pagliaro and Kathleen Pellegrino. We are fortunate to have
two very skilled long term substitute teachers with us this year,
Mrs. Aiello, 2nd Grade and Mrs. Wheeler, Special
Education. These teachers and assistants will be welcome additions
to our dedicated and highly qualified teaching staff. Barnes also
enjoys the skills of Mrs. Sgambato, Ms. Carnevale and Mrs.
Turchetti-Ramm as National Board Certified Teachers. These
educators have met advanced national teaching standards to achieve
such an honor and we are fortunate to have them working with us.
Barnes has a very active Parent Teacher
Organization that provides activities and programming focused on
enriching the student and family’s educational experience. I
encourage you to become involved in your child’s learning
experience at Barnes. We have planned many events for the upcoming
season. Watch for notices announcing these activities and
hopefully you will plan to attend. Mrs. Dawn Guglielmo leads a
very creative and hard working PTO Board. I look forward to
working closely with them and they will seek your help from time
to time.
As the Principal of the school, my goal is to
insure a safe, productive school setting where mutual respect is a
key to success. I believe that a school should have clear
expectations for both school work and behavior in order to provide
a setting where all students succeed. I believe it is important to
know each student, the work they are doing and how they learn
best. I plan to regularly visit classrooms and take an active role
in the teaching and learning at Barnes. Family involvement is a
critical piece of the puzzle. Take time to discuss the school day
with your child and understand the work he or she is doing both at
home and in school. If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to
contact your student’s teacher or myself. We are there to assist
in any way we can.
I am anticipating a successful year that will
focus on success in all areas of our school. We will strive to
create a premier learning community for our students, staff and
families. I look forward to working with all of you to meet the
demands of a quality education.
