The Early Childhood Center was established in September of 2000 to provide kindergarten and pre-school educational programs to Johnston's young children.  Before the creation of the "ECC", as it is known, the pre-school and kindergarten programs were run independently from the 6 elementary schools throughout the district.  The Early Childhood Center allows integration of the students, educational professionals, and teaching tools specifically designed to serve the needs of children between the ages of 3-6 in one building.
