Thornton Elementary School's Mission
The mission of the Thornton Elementary
School, as a school working together with families, is to promote high
standards for students, staff and families by providing the necessary
skills and information regarding available resources through creating
an active, cooperative partnership between the family and the school.
We also believe:
 |
that all children can and must
learn |
 |
that a school can establish an
atmosphere that is orderly and caring |
 |
that schools exist to provide
students with a broad range of learning experiences |
 |
that a curriculum
that is tied to annual school goals and learner needs is more
effective than a curriculum that is derived solely from textbooks
and commercial sources in operating as part of the community,
encouraging involvement of parents and other community members in
school improvement efforts |
 |
that effective schools provide
opportunity for shared decision making |
 |
that effective schools are
changing to meet the needs of a divergent population |
 |
that the school community
should encourage tolerance and accept diversity |
 |
that learning is a life long
process |
