The New England Assessment (NECAP) Schedule

Thornton Elementary School's Mission

The mission of the Thornton Elementary School, as a school working together with families, is to promote high standards for students, staff and families by providing the necessary skills and information regarding available resources through creating an active, cooperative partnership between the family and the school.

We also believe:

bullet

that all children can and must learn

bullet

that a school can establish an atmosphere that is orderly and caring

bullet

that schools exist to provide students with a broad range of learning experiences

bullet

that a curriculum that is tied to annual school goals and learner needs is more effective than a curriculum that is derived solely from textbooks and commercial sources in operating as part of the community, encouraging involvement of parents and other community members in school improvement efforts

bullet

that effective schools provide opportunity for shared decision making

bullet

that effective schools are changing to meet the needs of a divergent population

bullet

that the school community should encourage tolerance and accept diversity

bullet

that learning is a life long process
