Pet Detective WebQuest

Grade Level: Pre-K thru Grade 3

It should be noted that this WebQuest which requires reading is best when completed in a small group of children with an adult or with a parent and child.

Introduction

Each year, our First Grade class has a classroom pet, so we need to know a little about pets.

Task

We are going on a WebQuest! Your job is to be a detective and find out many facts about pets and their care.

Resources and Process

Just a reminder: During the WebQuest, after you click on a "blue link"  and find the information you are looking for. Then, press the BACK button at the top of your browser screen to return to the HOME page.

The first thing a WebQuest detective needs to know is how to find the Pet Picture of the Day.  Click on the underlined words and then return back to this page.

Good Job!  You found the first pet picture!

Pets need to be cared for by a doctor called a Veterinarian. Can you name all the animals that the Doctor is taking care of?

Some classrooms have cockatiels for classroom pets.  Would you like to see the new baby cockatiels? How many babies did you see?

Hedgehogs can make good pets though they need to be handled in a special way.  Can you find out why the children must be careful when holding the hedgehog?

What has four short legs and likes to eat vegetables?  Be a WebQuest Detective and visit the LiveCam of the mystery pets.

Some people have many pets that they love very much.  Choose the picture of a pet  you would like to care for .   Write or dictate a story about your chosen pet.

Dogs and cats are some of the most popular pets that children have. Baby dogs are called puppies and baby cats are called kittens. Look at this site for a group of kittens. What colors do you see?

Even the President of the United States likes pets. Visit the White House pets.  What kind of animals are they and what are their names?

Surprise a friend or your family with an email  Pet Card.  Send a message telling why you liked the picture you chose.  Don't forget to add music and  "sign" your own name.  (If you don't know anyone with an email address,  I'd be happy to receive a card from you.  Send it to: ride3448@ride.ri.net)

Conclusion

You have completed your detective work. Congratulations! Tell a friend something you learned about pets.

Let me know if you have a pet story to share by E-mailing Mrs. Batchelder.
