Mr. David Crook
Interview and Report
by Mary Ellen, Amanda, Philip and Dan
Mr. David Crook is a member of our Town Council in Narragansett. There are five members of the council. Mr. Brian Handrigan, is the President. Mrs. Susie Miller, Mr. John Hickey, and Mr. George Lenihan are the other members. Mr. Crook came to our class to tell us about his important job. Here is what we learned.
The most important things he does in his job is give directions to the Town Manager and make sure that the schools have enough money to buy everything they need. He has been doing his job for about four years. The part of his job he likes best is meeting people and talking to people. The one thing he would like to change about his job is to have more people go to the meetings. Answering questions of people takes up most of his time. Mr. Crooks' job is a very busy job!
Some of the problems people come to him with are the taxes. Mr. Crook mostly has control of the town money. He thinks he's most helpful by listening to others. The Town Council doesn't make laws. They make ordinances and help solve problems. Most of the Town Council members' job is responding to people's complaints. Their meetings are at the Town Hall. Mr. Crook thinks there are about 20,000 people in our town. Mr. Crook would like more people to come to the meetings. The Town Council members are a very important part of our town government.
