The Nest
The most important part of an antís life takes place
in the nest. Here the food is brought, the brood taken care of and the
queen protected. The nest itself may contain nests for smaller ants to
protect them. Workers are constantly busy to regulate the nest climate.
Eggs, larvae and
pupae are transported through the corridors into
some areas of the nest . When it becomes too warm, the ants, together
with their brood, move to the lower areas of their nest. With colder weather,
the brood is taken into the top chambers to use the warmth of the sun.
Soldiers are guarding the entrance to the nest. Other workers are responsible
for keeping the nest clean.
