Root Cross-Section
Epidermis: absorbs water and nutrients into the root
Root Hairs: grow on the root surface to aid in the absorption of nutrients and water
Cortex: storage of sugars and starches
Xylem: transports water through the root
Phloem: transports water through the root
Endodermis: separates vascular bundle from cortex
Casparian Strips: water-proof strips around endodermis cells that prevent water from moving around the endodermis, so that water flows through them
