Research Projects For the next 6 weeks you will be part of a scientific team responsible for researching one of the situations listed below. In order to accomplish this mission, you must first determine what background information is needed.
This will require utilizing the various resources in the library. Information will be collected on note sheets. Follow the guidelines for collecting this information. From these sheets you will put together a thoroughly thought out and documented background paper. Each group will have access to the Writing Handbook used in school. A good section explaining the development of the research paper and how to cite your work is included. Three class periods will be allowed for researching the material. Other than that you must utilize the library during your study halls or after school. Remember that the city and the University have expanded library resources available. Those with Internet access should do so. Keep in mind that the hours between 5 and 8 are extremely busy times and it will take longer to log on and to download information.
Once the background papers have been done, each group will be responsible for developing an experiment and carrying it out. You are responsible for locating the materials needed for this project. Keep this in mind as you develop the experiment. Use the guidelines given you for writing this laboratory report. Remember to include how you will measure your findings. An accurate account of daily observations is to be kept. This should than be transferred to a chart or data table. The writing of the final experiment will be the group's responsibility.
Remember that this includes an introduction based on some of the background information your group gathered during their background search. You may want to include pictures taken as your project progresses. These can be included in your observation section. Your results will be shown in your charts, tables, and graphs. The conclusion should tie the research report together and summarize the findings. If you are comparing your findings with others found in your research don't forget to cite the sources.
