Damaged Soil
Our
group investigated this topic because it seemed like an interesting topic
to study. We were interested in learning about the way a plant is affected
by different pH levels. The first thing that we did was got the soil. When
we got the soil we made six different pH levels. Each pH level had three
pots. We planted two lima beans in each pot. Every day we observed the
plants, such as the size of the leaves or the overall measurement of the
plant. We learned that lima beans grow best with a soil pH between 6.8-8.4.
In these pH levels we observed that the plants grew extremely fast. In
the pots that had a pH of 6.2 or below we observed that the plants hardly
grew at all. This will help us answer the question of how much acid a company
would be able to dump in order for the soil to still be able to host plants.
