• SAVE OFTEN!            Save your work to the folder on your desktop that you made with that clever name: "Web Page". Word will automatically save it as an html file. You MUST use no more than 8 characters in naming the file and they MUST be lowercase letters. If you take a look in that folder you will notice that there are no documents saved as Word documents. It will save it as an Explorer file or Netscape file.
  • You will also notice that any pictures, bullets, or backgrounds that you insert from Word will automatically be added as separate files in your folder called "Web Page". If you are using Word 2000 they will be added into a new folder within your "Web Page" folder.  If you find an image from the web, make sure that you save the image in your "Web Page" folder yourself.
  • You will not be able to manipulate or change anything if you are viewing your web page in Explorer or Netscape. You can only make changes when you are working in Word.
  • If you have closed down Word and later decide you want to make some changes you will want to remember this:  Open Word first! Click on File > Open and open the web page you created in the folder called "Web Page". Now you can make any changes that you would like. (You can't make changes if you try to open the document directly from the folder.
  • Pictures and words seem to stay put better if you work in a table when creating your web page in Microsoft Word. Click on Table > Insert Table. You will not see the table when your page is complete, unless of course you want to see it. Type the text and add the pictures into the cells of the table.
  • Animated gifs or moving pictures will not move when viewing them in Word. They will move and jump if you view them in Explorer or Netscape.
  • While pictures draw the reader's attention, too much of a good thing can backfire. Too many moving pictures cause a distraction that may turn the reader off. Your information will be lost if you get too tricky all at once.
