Good Question!
Here are several reasons that you might want to create a web page for your classroom. Please share your ideas and we can make the list grow.
Public Relations You can create web pages to share all of the great things that you are working on in your classroom or at your school. You can reach a larger audience by posting a web page to:
showcase student work and classroom projects; describe a special guest visit to your classroom or school; post a monthly newsletter or calendar for parents
Please take care to check out your school's Acceptable Use Policy before posting any student work on the Internet!
Collaborative Projects Create a collaborative project and invite others all around the world to join your project. It is very powerful to communicate with students on the other side of the world who have a common goal or interest. It naturally brings geography to life.
Classroom Assignments You can post your long-range calendar that reminds students of up coming tests, long range assignments, field trips, etc. Absent students can check missed assignments, lecture notes, and/or make up work without your undivided attention.
Research You can create a focused web page related to a specific topic that is being studied. You can somewhat limit the direction that students search by including specific links for them to explore. The students can summarize and report upon their findings. This can be a nice way to introduce your students to searching the Internet.
