
The History of Whelan School.
The Dr. Joseph A. Whelan Elementary School opened in 1960 and it is located on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence, Rhode Island. It was originally built to accommodate an increase of students residing in the Woodville/Geneva area of town. The elementary school was first named Woodward Road Elementary School. The first principal of the school was Dr. Joseph A. Whelan. The second principal was Bernard D. Grossi. The third and currently presiding principal is Paul F. Morry. Our school symbol is the "shark," but our school nickmame is J.A.W.S. (Joseph A. Whelan School: J.A.W.S.)
