Policies

This section includes some, but NOT ALL, of the general school policies. A complete Policy Book is available at the School Administration Building, at each school, and at the Portsmouth Public Library.

EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POLICY

It is the policy of the Portsmouth School Committee to uphold the civil rights of citizens and to provide Equal Employment Opportunity without discrimination because of race, creed, color, sex, age, national origin, or because of physical handicaps.

NON-DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF SEX - Policy 4111.5

It is the belief and policy of the State of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Department of Education, and the Portsmouth School Department that the sex of an individual should not serve as a barrier to his or her opportunity to participate in educational activities, nor shall his or her sex adversely affect the rights of an individual to compete for employment opportunities.

It shall therefore be the policy of the Portsmouth School Department to provide equal opportunity in the educational programs and activities which it operates. The Portsmouth School Department shall not discriminate in admissions, treatment or access to educational programs, activities and facilities or in regard to employment opportunities on the basis of sex, as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972.

(The full text of all policies may be found in the Portsmouth School Committee Policy Book which may be obtained at the Administration office.)
