ABOUT
OUR SCHOOL ![]()

Melville Elementary School serves approximately 325 kindergarten through grade 4 students. It is located on 4.5 acres of land which are adjacent to the Naval Education Training Center. Our student population is a wonderful mix of native Rhode Islanders and students who have traveled and lived throughout the world.
Each grade two through grade four has three classes each with a capacity of 25 students or less. Grade 1 is limited to 22 students per classroom and each kindergarten class has a maximum enrollment of 21 youngsters. All children attend weekly art, music, library and physical education classes. Special programs for qualified students range from classes for talented students to remedial reading, speech/language therapy, counseling and learning disabilities. In addition, we are the regional center for special education children with mobility needs.
Our students are well-behaved, respectful, competent children who come from caring and supportive homes. Teachers are well trained, life-long learners who treat the students the way they would like their own children treated. With this combination, academic achievement is remarkable!
