Biomes of the World Project Choices and Overview For 7th Gr. Science Students ~ The Comet Team ~ Gallagher Middle School

Biomes can be divided into two main categories: Water and Land Biomes. Within each biome you will find that there are plants and animals well adapted to living there. Check out what it's like there and you'll understand why each biome is so important to us. Notice the natural selection, food webs, and the human - environment interaction that is affecting these biomes.

PROJECT INFORMATION: You will be investigating and presenting a biome in class with a partner. Choose from the following biomes for your class project. Each biome below has one link to get you started on your research. Be sure to use a variety of resources and record the sources you have used to gather information.

The following areas of research are to be included in the final project and presentation:

Plant Life
Animal Life
Endangered Species
Interactions - Food webs, food chains, etc.
symbiosis
climate data: Temperature and rainfall for a typical year
Absolute location of the biome you are specifically investigating
Geography of that area - landforms and features that impact the life of the biome
Human-Environment Interactions (positive or negative) that affect the biome. Does conservation affect your biome? How?
Features and facts about that particular biome

Steps to follow for a "successful journey":

1. First, obviously, you must choose a biome to study!

2. Do a little investigating. Where on Earth is this biome found?

3. Now you're on the right track to becoming an expert on this particular place on Earth! Do your research, plan your project and presentation. Be creative, but be accurate.

4. Plan how you'll present your visuals - poster, Power Point, etc.

5. Once you have a plan, you and your partner can divide the workload and do an excellent job!

6. Check back to your rubric to be sure you're covering all standards.

7. Ask if you need help finding information ~ don't procrastinate!
