Miss Marchetti is the recipient of an Earthwatch Education Technology Fellowship to participate in "Teachers Learning and Teaching Live from the Field" on Team VI of "Wild Dolphin Societies.  Miss Marchetti will be working with scientists, at Mote Marine in Sarasota, Florida, who have been studying coastal Bottlenose Dolphins for over 30 years.  The primary purpose of this study is to address questions regarding the animals population, health, ecology, social structure, behavior, and the impact of humans as it relates to these dolphins. 

The Teachers Learning and Teaching from the Field Program in Rhode Island is funded by Earthwatch Institute , with a grant from the RI Foundation.

Miss Marchetti will be involved in hands-on investigations and data collection while in the field.  She will be working in conjunction with Ms. Cote, another 5th grade teacher at McCabe School in Smithfield.  Ms. Cote will be in the classroom enabling students to share in Ms. Marchetti's daily investigations through live reporting, digital photos and journal entries from the field.

Students will be engaged in daily lessons that integrate science, geography and technology.  These lessons will be implemented before, during and after the expedition, and will also be posted on the web site as a resource to all teachers at Anna McCabe, as well as others who visit this site.
