I. G. School Improvement Process
School improvement planning shall be the primary process used to focus and guide student achievement and staff learning at both the district and individual school level. While standards for student performance are set at the district level, the approaches for reaching these standards shall be set at the school level. To that end, each school will adopt, at least annually, a school improvement plan that specifies educational goals, strategies for meeting those goals, and measures for determining the level of achievement towards those goals.
The school improvement planning process shall include the following steps:
Student Achievement
Learning Climate/Safety
Curriculum Standards and Outcomes
Instructional Effectiveness
Professional Climate/Support
Family Involvement
Community Involvement
School improvement planning shall be conducted by a school improvement team. The School Improvement Team for each school should include:
Each school improvement team shall select their own chairperson (s) or shall serve as a committee of the whole. In addition, it shall select one (1) of its members to record, publish, and maintain the minutes of all formal discussion or policy meetings.
The agenda for each School Improvement Team Meeting shall be set by the membership. School issues that fall within the scope of instructional improvement are considered appropriate for discussion and planning.
The decisions of School Improvement Teams are not binding; however, they shall be considered as recommendations for future action.
Should vacancies on the School Improvement Team occur during the year, they will be filled by individuals from the same category from which the vacancy occurred, whenever possible.
The district agrees to support the work of each school improvement team by providing guidance and direction via the District Improvement and Action Plan.
