I. D. Use of School Facilities
Since our schools belong to the people of the school district and since our plant facilities are established, maintained and operated by funds largely provided by local taxes, the West Warwick School Committee accepts the responsibility for making its plant facilities available to responsible organizations, associations, and individuals of the community for appropriate civic, cultural, welfare or recreational activities which do not infringe upon nor interfere with the conduct and best interests of the school system.
More specifically, it is the West Warwick School Committee's intention to grant the use of school facilities under the superintendent's regulations for activities of an educational, cultural, civic, social, recreational, governmental and general political nature which are to be sponsored by responsible, recognized local persons, organizations, agencies or institutions.
Types of Activities Prohibited
1. Partisan political meetings promoting a single candidate or slate of candidates
2. Any activity that may be injurious to the buildings, grounds or equipment
3. Any purpose in conflict with school activities
4. Commercial advertising
5. Fund-raising campaigns except as permitted by school committee policy or special action of the committee
Granting of Approval
The superintendent of schools in conjunction with the school building principal and/or the athletic director, if athletic facilities are requested, is authorized to approve and arrange for scheduling the use of school facilities by applicants-satisfying the above purposes and limitations subject to review by the West Warwick School Committee.
Access to Persons with Disabilities
The West Warwick School Committee feels that our school facilities should be accessible to all individuals within the community. To this end, the school committee shall attempt to provide access to these facilities, where feasible, to all individuals in accordance with the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state law.
In accordance with the regulations for due process under Section 504, the West Warwick School Committee establishes the Grievance Procedure outlined in Appendix J to resolve complaints registered with school officials concerning alleged violations of said regulations.
