Arctic's J.J.Newberry's store was a popular store throughout Arctic along
with the David & Sons building . The uplands and lowlands are scattered
acrossArctic . People used brick, granite, wood and other materials to build
their houses and stores . On Friday nights the sidewalks would be so crowded
people would have to walk on the streets . Stores were Artic's biggest
resource because it use to attract
tourists to the shops. The people shopped for: clothing, groceries,
hardware, medicine and more . Since the Warwick & the Rhode Island malls
opened up Arctic's stores are almost deserted . Arctic is located on the
south branch of the Pawtuxet River.
French Canadians in Quebec came to Arctic to work in the factories . The

Warwick mill is home of Natco . Arctic mill makes displays for stores .
The original Majestic building was built in the 1800's and burnt down in
1908 . The owner rebuilt the building with steal and concrete to make it
fire proof . The front half of the building was a hotel . The second to
fifth floor was all theater and balcony . The basement had a bowling alley
with four lanes . There were also three concession stands in the basement
. On the fifth floor Joe Sullivan the world's boxing champion had a boxing
ring set up . Arelene Lombardi bought the Majestic in 1980. There was a
Majestic Hardware, Army Navy Store, and a shoe repair shop all on the first
floor. She then renovated the first floor and made it a restaurant called
"Britneys".
