Location

Centreville used to be called Beaver Dam. There were two major landmarks in Centreville, Centreville Bank and Roch's Market. The second oldest cotton mill in the U.S is also located there. It's about 16 miles from Providence. Centreville is in the middle of the town. Centreville is southeast from Riverpoint and northeast of Crompton.

Centreville has it's own bridge called the Centreville Bridge. You will know you are in Centreville when you see the Neptune Company and On The Roch's.

Place

Centreville has 3 hills. Its mill is on the south of the Pawtuxet River. The Centreville Mill is still working but not for textiles.. Centreville has its own junk yard. Roch's Market is the one of the best food stores in the state. They ship food to stores and restaurants.

Human Interaction

The mill name is Centreville Mill. Centreville Mill made textiles. The southern states shipped in cotton and the mills shipped out textiles. In 1785 the houses in Centreville increased to eight. Centreville's land was used for houses, stores, churches, schools, and the Centreville Mill. Today in Centreville there are more houses. The Centreville pond is big.

Joseph Greene donated the Greene cemetery to Centreville. Peeclia Xarin Peallal got paid 25 cents and 25.00 a week. They made clothing in the mills. It was very warm in the Centreville Mill. They had to eat when working. The Centreville Mill is old and is made out of granite. The mill is full of machines and oil. There are also fan belts and chains. Many people work on the machines in the mill.

The schools back then were different. In one classroom they had to fit 1,2,3,4,and 5th grades . Mrs. Peallal started to work at 30 years old. The hours were 3 to 11. Centreville was the second cotton mill in the U.S. Other mills got paid less than the Centreville Mill. You had to be 16 and over to work in a mill. Some of the machines were 60 feet long. The machines were very big in the mill. It took 12 people to make one textile.

Movement

Route 117 runs through two major roads in Centreville. Roch's Market is on 1475 Main St.. On Route 117 there is a restaurant named On The Roch's. There are two hair salons one is Style One and Nu Looks. The major roads in Centreville are : Bleech Ave., Leaf St., Center St., Main St., Kent St., and the Centreville pond is on Dale St.. The cotton was imported to the mill. The trains came through Arctic to the mill and picked up textiles. Centreville has a lot of businesses.



Region

The borders of Centreville are Crompton, Arctic, Coventry, and Warwick. The French people moved into Centreville. There are two churches in Centreville. One is Christ the King Church, and the other is St. Jame's Church. The FOP is in Centreville. Centreville became a village in 1840. Saint Jame's is on Route 117. Christ The King Church has a daycare underneath it. It's called Joyful Noise.
