Location
Phenix is located in West Warwick which is a town in Rhode Island. Phenix
is located on the north western part of West Warwick. Phenix is in the middle
of Harris and Lippitt. You'll know when you're in our village because you
will see a square
with buildings around it. The visible landmarks are the Phenix Square and
the bridge that was washed out five times. It was washed out by the strong
current. Phenix was once part of western Natick. After that it was called
Wales after Samuel Wales.
Place
Phenix is flat and hilly. The North Branch runs right through Phenix.
Phenix was a major shopping center before Arctic.
Human Interaction
The Phenix Mill was built in 1810. Phenix still didn't have fire trucks
even after the second fire. In the Phenix Square there was a store called
Cardin's Drugstore. You could
buy candy and ice cream there. Mrs. Cardin and her husband owned the store.
There is also a building called the Phenix
Hotel. It is still standing today. The Wales Mill was constructed in
1804. Phenix was named after an Egyptian bird that rose from its ashes and
became even more beautiful. The Phenix Mill burnt down for the second time
in 1855 on the 21st of November. Then the Phenix
Mill was built again.
The Lippitt Mill is the
oldest wooden textile mill still running today. It has always made lace.
The mill imported cotton and exported lace.
Movement
Main St. and Fairveiw Ave. are the main roads in Phenix. There was a
train station in Phenix next to the church. It ran to Hope 11 times a day.
There are no highways in Phenix. There are roads used to travel to the schools,
work and stores.
Region
Phenix became a town when the Roger Williams Mill burnt down. The borders
are: Cranston, Natick, Coventry and Lippitt. The Portuguese celebrate the
Holy Ghost with a festival. At night they put on a fireworks show. They
sometimes throw candy and pass out sweet bread. The floats are very beautiful.
It is on Labor day weekend.
